How Erin met Penny

Penny is a rescue/re-home. She was first rescued from a location that had much larger dogs that ended up hurting her. She was then brought to her second home, where she lived for around 5 years. While at this home she ended up meeting Aunt Bibby (Libby). Libby was the mail carrier for the route Penny lived on. Libby is very popular with all the dogs on her route because she always brings them treats. One day, in particular, when Libby had given Penny her treat, Penny began to choke and ran underneath Libby’s truck and passed out! Libby crawled under her truck, pulled Penny out and began doing the doggy Heimlich maneuver. Penny finally spit the piece of treat out in Libby’s hand, looked at the treat, looked at Libby, then grabbed the treat and ate it. From then on Libby only gave Penny soft treats.

About a year and a half later, Libby pulls up to give Penny her treat and notices that Penny’s face is swollen and she’s not eating her treat. When Libby goes to check on her, she just buries her face on Libby’s shoulder. Libby was afraid she had gotten bitten by a snake and goes to the owners to let them know something is wrong with Penny. However, tragedy had struck the family and the grandchild that helped take care of Penny had just passed away. Libby offered to take Penny to the vet to help the owners out.

Because Penny is a very small dog and lived outside, she had several health issues that needed to be addressed. The reason her face was swollen was because she had an infected tooth that needed to be pulled, but they couldn’t pull it right then because she wasn’t healthy enough. So, Libby informed the owners of the situation and they allowed Penny to stay with Libby for a week, so she could keep up with the treatments for them while they are dealing with their loss.

Libby’s niece, Erin, lives with her and always helps her take care of sick animals she brings home. When she brought Penny home, Erin fell in love and Penny claimed her as her “Hooman!” Over the course of that week Erin took care of Penny and tried not to get attached, but it was becoming more and more difficult and when it was time to take Penny back neither wanted her to go. However, the day that Penny was supposed to be returned Erin got “THE CALL,” Penny was hers! The owners wanted Erin to keep her because they would no longer be able to take care of her in light of everything they had just went through.

Penny and Erin are inseparable now. Penny is healthy, she finally got her tooth pulled, and she’s spoiled rotten! Libby has taken to calling her Princess Penny Mia Thermapolis, from Princess Diaries, and Erin’s room is known as Genovia, from the movie as well. Penny’s hobbies include riding with her hooman in the car, playing fetch, and going for walks. She is between 6-7 years old and full of life. When they’re not modeling, you can find Erin and Penny driving around town with a coffee in hand and Piggy (Penny’s favorite toy) in the mouth.
